Manory's Diner
Location and Atmosphere[edit]
Located at 99 Congress Street, Troy, NY. The vibe is cozy and welcoming and is filled with old school diner decor mixed with a touch of modernness. The staff is very welcoming and inviting despite the diner's busy and packed nature. Currently a lot of the customers are college students and people that are local to the area.
History[edit]
Manory’s Diner was founded by the Manory family in 1913 and today it is considered the "oldest lasting restaurant in Troy" and is a staple in downtown Troy. Before it became an RPI favorite, it was serving simple breakfast foods such as eggs, sandwiches, and coffee in the 1900s. Especially going through the rise of fast food chains, the Great Depression, and the Civil War, a lot of diners struggled to compete and were forced to shutdown. What allowed the restaurant to stay open that long was its quality food, inviting ambiance, and exceptional service. To this day the restaurant is still family owned, although not specifically by the Manory family, and serves a special place in the hearts of the people in Troy.
Owners Over the Years[edit]
Over the years there have been several owners of Manory’s Diner. Most have been members of the Manory family, with the exception of the current owners [3]. From 1913 until 1990, the restaurant was owned by different Manory family members, including the first owner, Joseph F. Manory [6]. His two succeeding sons, Anthony V. and Joseph F. Manory Jr., were the second co-owners of the restaurant until 1980 when the partnership faded [4, 6]. Anthony remained the sole owner until 1991 when he sold the restaurant becoming the final family owner [3, 4]. From 1991-2018, Manory’s Diner was owned by Jen Marchese and Louis Marchese, Jr. who took it over from Anthony V. Manory [3, 5]. Since July of 2018, the diner has been proudly owned by Brendan Jones, Jack Engster and Connor McGrath [5].
RPI Significance Today[edit]
Being so close to the RPI campus, it is a popular brunch spot for students. On a typical weekend, RPI students line up and wait upwards of 45 minutes to be seated at a table here. Whether it is the morning after a party or just a simple friend gathering, Manory's is the place to be on the weekends. As students eagerly wait, they can see plates of fluffy pancakes, cinnamon rolls, and omelets being served alongside crispy toast.
Menu[edit]
Manory’s Diner is well-known for its extensive breakfast options, served all day, which include pancakes, waffles, omelets, and the local favorite, "The Troy Special" (a hearty combination of eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, and toast). Make sure to try some of their signature items such as their:
-Breakfast Skillets
-Classic Eggs Benedict
-Burgers and Fries
-Milkshakes and Ice Cream Sundaes
